Find and Contact Your Council Member

Your City Council member is your direct voice at City Hall. Council members are elected to represent the people who live in their district, listen to local concerns, and help guide decisions that affect our quality of life, public safety, city services, infrastructure, parks, streets, utilities, growth, development, and fiscal responsibility.

If you have a concern, question, or idea about something happening in Seguin, we encourage you to contact your council member directly. Whether the issue involves traffic, drainage, police or fire services, parks, water, sewer, electricity, city planning, or another city matter, your elected official needs to hear from the people they represent.

Step 1: Find Your Council District

To find your council member, click the Council District Map link below. The map will open in a new browser tab. Locate your neighborhood to determine which council district you live in.

Once you know your district, find your council member’s contact information and send them a short, respectful email requesting a meeting or sharing your concern.

Step 2: Contact Your Council Member

When you contact your council member, be sure to let them know that you are a resident and constituent in their district. This is important because council members are elected to represent the people who live within their district boundaries.

A simple message can be very effective:

“Hello Council Member ______, my name is ______, and I live in District ____. I would like to meet with you to discuss an issue that is important to me and my neighborhood.”

We also encourage you to copy or BCC info@betterseguin.org on your email or send us a follow-up message after your meeting. This helps Citizens for a Better Seguin understand which issues are being discussed, how responsive elected officials are, and how effective our outreach efforts are across the city.

Tips for Meeting With Your Elected Official

Meeting with an elected official does not have to be intimidating. Most elected officials are friendly, approachable people who live in our community just like you. They are neighbors, parents, business owners, volunteers, and citizens. They are no different than you and I — they put their pants on one leg at a time.

Here are a few helpful tips:

Be respectful and polite, even when discussing difficult issues. A calm, professional conversation is usually more effective than anger or confrontation.

Dress casually but appropriately. You do not need to wear a suit, but you should present yourself in a way that shows respect for the meeting.

Be on time. If your council member gives you a meeting time, arrive a few minutes early and be prepared.

Let them know you are a constituent. Make it clear that you live in their district and that the issue matters to you, your family, your neighborhood, or your community.

Bring others from your district. A meeting is more powerful when several residents from the same district attend together and respectfully share their concerns.

Stay focused. Before the meeting, write down two or three main points you want to make. Try not to cover too many unrelated issues at one time.

Be honest. If your council member asks you a question and you do not know the answer, it is perfectly acceptable to say, “I don’t know, but I will find out and get back with you.”

Bring supporting information. Photos, documents, emails, maps, or specific examples can help explain your concern clearly.

Ask for a response or next step. Before the meeting ends, ask what action can be taken, who else you should contact, or when you should follow up.

Thank them for their time. Even if you disagree, courtesy goes a long way and helps keep the door open for future conversations.
