Data Centers

Our Position on Data Center Development in Seguin

Citizens for a Better Seguin believes that any data center development proposed in or near Seguin must make sense for the long-term future of our community. Growth should be responsible, transparent, and carefully planned — not rushed through without clear answers about water, electricity, infrastructure, traffic, drainage, land use, and the impact on nearby residents.

Data centers can place significant demands on local water and electric systems. Before any project moves forward, the City of Seguin must ensure that residents, small businesses, schools, churches, and existing employers will not experience reduced water reliability, lower electric reliability, higher utility costs, or delayed infrastructure improvements because of one large industrial user. Our community’s basic services must come first.

We also believe data centers must be properly located and buffered. These facilities should not be placed in a way that negatively affects neighborhoods, rural homes, schools, parks, or future residential growth. Strong setbacks, landscaping, sound mitigation, lighting controls, traffic planning, and visual screening should be required to protect quality of life and preserve the character of Seguin and Guadalupe County.

Citizens deserve full transparency before decisions are made. That includes honest answers about water use, electric load, backup power, noise, incentives, tax abatements, emergency response needs, long-term jobs, and whether the project truly benefits the people who live here. Seguin should welcome good economic development, but only when it protects residents, respects our resources, and strengthens the community for the long run.
