Dear Council Member,

I am writing to express my opposition to the planned Pride Fest event at the Seguin Coliseum and to ask where you stand on this issue.

I have serious concerns about this event being held in a city-owned public facility, especially if the event includes drag performances, children’s activities, or direct interaction between performers, volunteers, organizers, and minors. The City of Seguin has a responsibility to protect children, families, attendees, protesters, nearby residents, and the broader community.

Before this event is allowed to move forward, the city should require clear safeguards, including full disclosure of all performers and volunteers who may interact with children, completed background checks where appropriate, no unapproved performer or volunteer substitutions, clear separation between adult-themed entertainment and child-focused activities, and proper supervision for any children’s activities.

The city should also require a complete public-safety plan. That plan should include adequate law enforcement and security inside and outside the facility, traffic and crowd-control planning, protest and counter-protest management, emergency medical planning, fire-safety planning, and coordination with local law enforcement as needed.

Most importantly, Seguin taxpayers should not be forced to pay for special security, crowd control, protest management, or other public-safety costs created by this event. If additional security is required to keep the community safe, those costs should be paid by the event organizers to the fullest extent allowed by city policy.

Please provide a clear response explaining your position on this event. Do you support allowing the Pride Fest event to move forward as planned? Do you support requiring stronger safeguards before the event is approved? Will you support requiring the organizers, not taxpayers, to pay for any additional security and public-safety costs?

I respectfully ask you to take these concerns seriously and to act in a way that protects children, respects taxpayers, and upholds the values of the Seguin community.

Respectfully,
